Farzad Goli, MD

Medical Psychotherapist

Farzad Goli, author, philosopher, and therapist, is a guest researcher at the University of Freiburg in Germany. In 2011, Dr. Goli was appointed a professorship at the Energy Medicine University, and in collaboration with his wife, Mahboubeh Farzanegan, has been teaching the professional “Bioenergy economy” (BEE) program. He developed this program in 2008 as a novel integrative care model based on his experiences in clinical and educational activities in the areas of psychosomatic medicine, transpersonal psychology, and cultural psychology- especially Sufi psychology. Furthermore, he has led numerous postdoctoral programs and trained hundreds of psychologists and psychiatrists in psychosomatic medicine, psycho-oncology, and systemic psychology.

Dr. Goli passed his medical fellowship and leadership courses in psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy under the supervision of Prof. Carl Eduard Scheidt and Prof. Michael Wirsching, who wrote the foreword to his book “Bioenergy economy; the scientific and methodological bases”. In 1997, Dr. Goli founded “Danesh-e Tandorosti Institute” – an academic, cultural, and research institute focused on mind-body health and medicine. In the past two decades, he has been designing and teaching course contents for multiple Systemic and Transpersonal Psychology programs, and his latest research delves into a model philosophy of medicine and biosemiotics.

Thur Von Uexkuell, one of the founders of psychosomatic medicine, who made every worthy and best endeavor to construct a biosemiotic model to solve mind-body problems, set Dr. Goli’s sights on fulfilling and developing this fruitful aim, and his perseverance paved the way for taking a new approach for better understanding of a psychophysical language. This diligence resulted in establishing a theoretical model by the name of “Biosemiotic Medicine”, bringing novel approaches to the elucidation of complicated psychosomatic phenomena like placebo responses. This endeavor resulted in the publication of “Biosemiotic Medicine; Healing in the World of Meaning” published by Springer in 2016. This systemic model has paved the way for the development of bioenergy economy-based health improvement (BEHI).

In 2012, Dr. Goli was invited as one of the main authors to cooperate in the book, “Psychosomatic Medicine: An International Primer for the Primary Care setting”, published by Springer in 2014. This book became a world-renowned educational book in the field and the second, and more comprehensive edition of the book was published in 2020.

Before these publications, he has prolifically been writing books about transpersonal and systemic psychology, the philosophy of medicine, and cultural psychology in the Persian language entitled: “Nothing here is doing nothing”; “The knowledge of consciousness evolution”; “One bridge and 33 contemplations”; “The time for witnessing – an essay on inner society”; and “A prelude to life-oriented medicine.”

Since 2013, Dr. Goli has been appointed editor-in-chief of the “International Journal of Body, Mind, and Culture” (www.ijbmc.org) affiliated with the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy, University of Freiburg, and Danesh-e Tandorosti Institute.
